    WSL Manager 0.1.0

    Windows source/UI tests, native build, checksum verification, and an in-place per-user upgrade passed. The user also confirmed successful functional testing. See WINDOWS_VALIDATION_2026-09-30.md for the scope and limits.

    A clearer workspace for WSL

    WSL Manager now has a redesigned interface with light, dark and system themes. Distributions and their services have distinct workspaces, and the selected distribution's state, WSL version and Linux identity are easier to understand. Smaller windows prioritize the service list instead of dashboard cards.

    Better service control

    Search and filter services, read descriptions, inspect copyable details and view recent service logs. Start, stop and restart services, or manage autostart with optional enable-and-start/disable-and-stop actions. Runtime and autostart are shown separately, including static units, aliases, masks and temporary enablement. All services is available alongside the focused development-service view.

    Multi-service operations skip actions that do not apply and report partial failures. Alias targets are not changed repeatedly. Failed or incomplete reads are explained instead of leaving old data actionable.

    More predictable refresh and feedback

    Refreshes and service commands are coordinated so repeated clicks and fast distribution changes do not apply stale results to the wrong view. Search and navigation remain available during background reads. Progress, cancellation, empty states and error details are more consistent. Automatic refresh is optional and off by default.

    Distribution enumeration no longer reads Linux files in every running distribution. Observed-stopped distributions are not inspected; start them explicitly. See the limitation below regarding a concurrent external stop.

    More useful port information

    Optional listener discovery shows TCP/UDP ports with improved process and socket-activation attribution. Missing ownership data is marked unavailable rather than assumed absent. A failed port lookup does not discard the service list.

    A staged update experience

    The update dialog shows the new version, release notes, download progress and verification status. Installation is a separate choice after download verification. Downloads and metadata have stronger validation and bounds, and the installer is checked again immediately before launch.

    Smaller quality improvements

    Remembered window/selection preferences, keyboard shortcuts, themed settings and confirmations, copyable diagnostics, rotating logs and safer configuration writes make everyday use more predictable. Build tooling now checks failures at each stage and avoids reusing an old executable after a failed build.

    Important notes

    The app requires Windows with WSL; service management requires systemd inside the selected distribution. Linux service commands run as root inside that distribution. Port labels do not guarantee Windows/firewall reachability. Cancelling a command does not undo work already accepted by systemd.

    The running check and Linux execution are not atomic. An external stop in the narrow interval between them can still cause wsl --exec to start the distribution. Avoid terminating the selected distro externally during refresh; this version does not promise an absolute no-start guarantee.

    SHA-256 checks protect download integrity but are not publisher-signature verification. The interface uses system-DPI-aware Tk rather than a new WinUI framework. Fresh install/uninstall in an isolated VM, update handoff, multi-monitor DPI and screen-reader acceptance were not completed for this release.

    WSL Manager 0.0.3 adds Linux distribution details and service listening ports.

    • Running instances show their Linux distribution from /etc/os-release; stopped instances show the last observed value without being started.
    • Service ports are matched to systemd units by process ID, including aliases, and TCP/UDP listeners are distinguished.
    • The installer can be downloaded below or installed through the in-app update prompt from 0.0.2.
